Moving toward the 41 votes needed to block S. 744 in the final cloture vote later this week.

A very interesting post from  www.thedustininmansociety.org about Senators to pressure for the upcoming amnesty bill votes. This follows this post about the latest vote on the amnesty bill.  This follows this post about the release of illegal immigrant felons from prison by ICEThis follows this post about how to Report Illegal Immigrants! The Senate just voted 67-27 to limit debate and amendments on the Corker-Hoeven amendment to the S. 744 amnesty bill.

That means the 1,100+ page bill as amended by 119 pages of amendments today can come to a vote as early as Wednesday morning. The final cloture vote (requiring 60 votes) on the whole bill could be as early as Thursday morning.

Some good news this evening is that we saw 12 additional Senators who were willing to defy an unprecedented crush of corporate lobbyists and stand against giving out 28-33 million more foreign work permits during a time of high unemployment.
Last week, only 15 of the 100 Senators were willing to make that kind of stand and voted to kill the S. 744 mass immigration/amnesty bill on the very first vote in the process.
One of those -- Sen. Kirk (R-Illinois) -- switched sides tonight and voted to keep the amnesty alive.
But the outpouring of grassroots opposition to this bill continues to move us toward the 41 votes needed to block S. 744 in the final cloture vote later this week. Believe me, we have a huge battle ahead of us to get to 41. But it is still possible if we can persuade enough more Senators that the voters of their state understand what an empty set of promises the Corker/Hoeven amendment really is.
Perhaps the most hopeful news this evening was that the entire leadership of the Senate Minority Party (Republican) voted against stopping debate on this substitute bill.
A month ago -- with all the pressure from the National Republican Establishment and corporate lobbyists -- we would not have been surprised to see the Senate Republican leadership backing this bill.
Instead, this evening the Minority Leader (McConnell), the Minority Whip (Cornyn), Policy Chair (Barrasso) and Conference Chair (Thune) all voted NO.

We have a fax for you to send to each of your Senators based on votes just cast on the floor.
Go to your NumbersUSA Action Board and find faxes prepared for you to send to Senators based on whether they voted for or against the giant amnesty and massive foreign labor importation in this evening's vote.

Thanks to all of you who have been calling -- many of you every day -- the last two weeks.
I have to tell you that we cannot stop asking you. We must keep the pressure up every single day this week.

It appears that most of the Senators not voting were not able to get back to Washington in time for the roll call.
We feel reasonably sure that Sen. Enzi and Sen. Lee would have voted NO, which would have gotten the NO vote up to 29. That means we have to persuade 12 more Senators to see this bill as a giant amnesty and increase in foreign workers at the expense of 20 million American workers who can't find a full-time job and in exchange for promises of enforcement that are full of loopholes.
We still have a decent chance to change the minds of 12 more Senators who for some reason were enticed by the empty enforcement promises of this Corker/Hoeven amendment but who have never really wanted to be known in their states as the politician who helped pass the largest amnesty in history.
Keep in mind that on these procedural votes, people are not necessarily showing where they will be on the underlying bill.
Read Chris Chmielenski's blog on the vote here:
Please send the faxes and be ready to make some more phone calls tomorrow.
It is most important that every Senator who voted YES this evening should feel a lot of heat all tomorrow.

Dear B,
From NumbersUSA:
Dear Friends,
I'm sending this special alert to an elite group of our activists in hopes that you will take a few minutes today to call your two Senators asking them to support two enforcement-first amendments to S. 744 that will be considered today.

Call your Senators: 888-995-6513
Ask them: Please vote Yes on the Cruz and Lee Amendments today.
Today, the Senate will continue its consideration of the Gang of Eight's immigration bill, S.744. We expect votes today this afternoon on two very important security-first amendments. Any Senator voting against these amendments is basically casting a vote in favor of Amnesty First.
  • Cruz Amendment #1320 - Offered by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), this amendment would require completion of reinforced, double-layered border fencing and completion of the biometric entry/exit system at all ports of entry (both of which are required under current law before illegal aliens can receive Registered Provisional Immigrant (RPI) status.
  • Lee Amendment #1208 - Offered by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), this amendment would require Congressional approval of the border plan before illegal aliens can receive RPI status.

Calling is simple! You can use the toll-free number we've provided below that will connect you to the Capitol Switchboard. When the operator answers, ask to be connected to your Senator's office. When the staffer answers, tell him/her that you want the Senator to vote YES on the Cruz amendment #1320 and Lee amendment #1208 to S.744.
888-995-6513

Thank You

We've been coming to you fast and furiously this week and the pace is likely to keep up until the final Senate vote expected next week. Every call you make is counted and helpful so please stick with us. Your daily calls opposing this Amnesty First, Enforcement Maybe Later bill are absolutely critical to defeating it.

DIS Update: The Gang of Eight bill's big lie‏

A very interesting post from www.thedustininmansociety.org  about lies in the "Gang of Eight" amnesty bill. In case we haven't been clear: If the U.S. government passes legislation that removes the illegal status from 20 million undocumented Democrats, it would be a law that was strictly enforced. And it will be the end of any hope for the nation ravaged by Barack Hussein Obama and the illegal alien lobby. If for no other reason, please make the calls for your children and grandchildren.

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson's office is telling the Wall St. Journal that during the 2007 amnesty fight, their office was getting about 2000 phone calls per day. And that right now, they are only getting about 100 calls a day. You need to know: The coalition of big-business, anything-for-a-buck lobbyists and the radical open borders, tribalist lobby has been calling and emailing YOUR U.S. Senators for months.

From the WSJ today:

WSJ: Immigration Bill Slow to Stir Foes' Passion

"...A fierce backlash against the bill six years ago ultimately spelled its demise because it prompted lawmakers such as Georgia Republican Sens. Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss, who helped draft sections of the measure, to withdraw support. "The backlash began as soon as an outline for a bill was announced, and it was relentless," said Joan Kirchner, a top aide to Mr. Isakson. Neither of the Georgia senators has taken a public position on this year's bill.
In recent weeks, Mr. Isakson's office has been receiving about 100 calls a day compared with as many as 2,000 a day in 2007. The volume is expected to rise if a bill reaches the floor, Ms. Kirchner said, "but signs are it won't be as intense." Activists said they are planning a protest outside Mr. Isakson's Atlanta office in early June..."

Peter Kirsanow -- National Review        The Gang of Eight bill's big lie
Among the many misrepresentations, falsehoods, deceptions, and outright lies told by supporters of the Gang of Eight bill, the biggest involve border security. -- Put simply, there is no border security in the bill. It's a mirage. The bill only requires the DHS secretary to present a plan to secure the border. Meanwhile, the amnesty for 11 million illegal [aliens] isn't merely a plan, it's a reality...

Local opponents of Senate amnesty bill visit Georgia senators

Local opponents of Senate amnesty bill visit Georgia senators   The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee approved an immigration bill this week. Some Georgia organizations support the measure, which provides a route to citizenship for those living in the U.S. illegally. About a dozen local opponents of the bill delivered a petition to the Atlanta offices of both Georgia U.S. senators Thursday. -- Although neither senator was available, the group of protestors started at Sen. Saxby Chambliss' Cobb County office
